We all know that cylinders require an annual hydrostatic test, but did you know that the valves are not a part of that process? For your safety and the safety of others it is just as important to make sure your cylinder valve is getting the same love and attention that the rest of your cylinder is getting. We recommend that your cylinder valves are serviced at least every two years. However, if you dive frequently (approx. 100 dives per year or more), you may want to have your cylinder valve serviced every 12 months instead. When you bring your valve to Safety Stop we will disassemble it and clean each part using our state of the art ultrasonic cleaner. All O-rings and Teflon parts will be replaced as required and the burst disc’s integrity will be tested. So, how do you know if your valve needs to be serviced?
- if you find your cylinder valve stiff and hard to open and close, it needs servicing.
- If it is increasingly difficult to shut the air off, it needs servicing.
- If air is leaking out of your cylinder after getting it filled, it needs servicing.
- If the knob is turning but the cylinder doesn’t open or close, it needs servicing.
